Research

The research carried out in the Department is biased towards the applied end of the research spectrum. Hence most of the results are of direct relevance to the needs of commerce and industry. Because of this bias, strong links have been forged between industry and the Department, and many of the research projects are undertaken either through industrial sponsorship, or jointly with industrial partners.

In 1991, the Federal Government established the concept of Cooperative Research Centres (CRCs), with a view to providing significant research funding to consortia of research groups capable of mounting a major research effort in areas relevant to the national economy. Several staff members were key participants in successful applications to form the A J Parker CRC in Hydrometallurgy, and the Australian Petroleum CRC.

The Department has a number of PhD projects on offer for potential research students. You can also vist the Postgrad@Curtin site for general information on postgraduate studies at Curtin.
